Description
As an Exploratory Development Associate II, you will be part of an expanding laboratory effort to implement cell-based screening technologies for lead selection and lead optimization in drug discovery. This position supports the Molecular and Investigative Toxicology team and other in vitro toxicology efforts throughout the company.
Key Responsibilities:
Implementing High-Content assays (HCA) in early to late discovery stages.
Developing new in vitro/ex vivo assay methods in the area of genetic toxicology
Evaluating novel cell culture techniques for screens to be used in drug discovery
Performing low- to medium-through-put compound screening for a broad range of cellular response markers to determine the dose-response values (CC50) of the lead compounds
Conducting experiments independently with minimal supervision
Presenting findings at team meetings, as applicable, and help identify possible mechanisms of action for our drug candidates
Willingness to exploring novel applications of HCA instrumentation in pharmaceutical R&D
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Biology, or a related discipline (Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Toxicology, etc.) 1-4 years relevant experience working in a mammalian cell culture laboratory and experience in cell-based assay methodologies, such as colorimetric, fluorescence-based (including FACS), or HCA platforms Familiarity with MSD platform would be a plus Must be able to work in an interdisciplinary environment and contribute to the lead selection and optimization process, as a full participant on the discovery teams which you will be supportingVertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated is a global biotechnology company committed to the discovery and development of breakthrough small molecule drugs for serious diseases.
